Fashion Speaks International, FSI, was established in October of 2015. The primary focus was and has remained, raising awareness about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People, MMIWG2S. Since the first show that FSI produced in September of 2015, we have produced shows in Paris and Cannes France, Australia, and at home in Kamloops BC, a documentary called Indigenous Voices in Fashion, with support from Telus Storyhive, featured approximately 75 Indigenous fashion designers, 130 Indigenous models, and many other Indigenous artists at our events. We have also provided and continue to provide training opportunities for Indigenous youth who are seeking the fashion industry as a profession. We work with other grassroots organizations who work directly with the families of MMIWG2S, Elders in our community, members of our community who have been directly impacted by the issue of MMIWG2S, Youth struggling with finding their identity, to build self-esteem, self-awareness, and environmental awareness. We incorporate the teachings of the Seven Elders in all of our program delivery models.
Welcome to the Fashion Speaks International website. Our mission is to introduce Indigenous fashion designers to mainstream fashion while supporting new and aspiring fashion industry professionals, who tell the stories of their culture and traditions from their Territories, through their art. Join our community today and experience the magic of fashion with Fashion Speaks International.
